overview

BNPL as a product category is inherently difficult to sell on a website. The value proposition needs to feel instant and trustworthy but most fintech landing pages either over-explain the mechanics or under-communicate the benefit. Freo Pay needed neither. I led the redesign of Freo Pay's digital touchpoints, working across marketing, design, and engineering to build a website that was responsive, SEO-optimised, and consistent with the brand. The brief was straightforward but the execution required getting three things right simultaneously: what to say, how to show it, and what to leave out. Research into actual Freo Pay usage patterns shaped the content strategy. Users were spending on chai, groceries, food, and fuel - everyday, low-friction purchases. The website needed to reflect that reality, not just pitch a credit line. Use cases were surfaced visually, the hero communicated the product's flexibility through rotating copy ("Shop Now. Pay Later." / "Live Now. Pay Later."), and the overall structure was built to guide a first-time visitor from curiosity to confidence without friction. Cross-functional collaboration was central to the process - aligning with marketers on the selling narrative, other designers on feedback loops, and developers to ensure pixel-level fidelity in the final build.
